Happiness is a cruel state of mind, because in its absence the heart, which has grown fond of it, will nag you to go look for it. Hence you'll begin the search for the pursuit of happiness looking in the most perfect places your mind can think of, and that's where you are mistaken.
Happiness comes from the most notorious of the sources imaginable. You'll have this perfect idea of happiness, something enchanting, bewildering, magical, bewitching, famous, wealthy, envy of everyone around you, the desire of many yet attainable only by a handful and destiny, you dream chooses you for it. That's our idea of happiness.
Most of us are so use to enjoying misery that we forget what happiness is or feels like, and then something totally unexpected, that doesn't fit our notion of perfect happiness, makes us so happy that even though we had a basic sense of what happiness does, surpasses all our expectations regarding it, and what's incredibly astonishing is its source. Its not what we, given a choice would choose, since its so flawed and imperfect, but once it becomes a part of us, it gives us pleasure and happiness like nothing in the world.
It's like this high that makes us do good things. It also makes us numb of other negative emotions that may threaten our happiness. Being the ungrateful species that we are, we forget what we usually feel like (misery-filled-unhappy-crappy individuals) and start preaching love, happiness, charity and the likes, spewing out crap regarding unhappiness, vengeance, betrayal and other such strong useful emotions.
And like most good things in life, happiness is short-lived. It comes like a tornado, disrupting our perfectly misery filled world, leaving us wanting more, and then like a sex addict, we keep looking for it wanting pleasure, happiness and contentment which barely crosses our road twice so we seek happiness- look-alike situations and become pseudo happy, because until you don't know what you are missing out on you are okay, but the moment you know how amazing it is to be happy, nobody wants to revert back to living the life prior to being happy. Unthankful creatures we are.
The first step towards resolving any problem is to admit that it’s a problem, and that’s particularly the toughest task. Having being in a situation where I was so happy I was shitting happy rainbows :) I suggest a few things.
a) It will last. So be prepared. Don't forget your buddies who were there in your miserable state.
b) STOP thinking happiness is a guy/girl who needs to score 10/10 in order to please your royal butt.
c) Also stop thinking Happiness is God given. You choose and carve your own path. The decisions you take will either lead you to happiness or it won't. God's not to be blamed, but only thanked. Misery is a total different story. Will discuss it later.
d) Enjoy while it lasts.
e) Stop looking for it like a cursed gypsy.
f) Find it if you are dying to, within yourself. Nobody has the power to make you happy or sad without your consent. You need to be highly equipped intrinsically for that, and that’s not every one's cup of tea.
g) For those who can't do much about point (f) should do drugs.
h) Sedonil, amazing anti-depressant. Knocks you out for a few hours. You wake up feeling like a leprechaun looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, only to find that gold is nothing but gold-soaked silver jewelry. It might also leave you quite delirious.
i) Find meaning in unhappiness. Its so much easier that way.
j) Surround yourself with those who for some God-forsaken reason, are always happy and smiling. They are infectious.
At the risk of sounding clichéd, I do however admit that happiness comes from small things. Small is open to interpretation, since what gives you so much can't be small.
People have found various ways of being happy or maybe its just a delusion, no one can tell, but one thing's for sure, you can't sit around waiting for happiness to come your way. There IS a middle way between happiness and unhappiness. Its called indifference, does wonders and also pretty much kills everything you harbor inside.
More to come regarding Happiness and its evils.
This song, by Natasha Bedingfield gives quiet a false idea regarding happiness, but should check out nevertheless.
